About Me

Hi! I'm Avery Smith, a junior double-major in Communication Design and Acting at Elon University. I am passionate about creating meaningful designs and campaigns. I specialize in editorial and theatrical work, and would love to work with you to help you achieve your design dreams. While my favorite design mediums are Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I love to learn new skills and am currently working to become proficient with photography and videography.

Runway LIVE Layout

In the summer of 2025, I had the pleasure of interning with Kimberly Metz Photography as a design intern. While I was employed at Kimberly's studio, she had several editorial shoots, two of which appeared in the Spring/Summer 2025 edition of Runway LIVE magazine. Because of my prior work with the company, Kimberly trusted me and recommended me to pull photos, retouch, design, and create typographic elements for the magazine stories that she had photographed, along with the cover of the edition. Below are the tear sheets for my sections of the magazine. My goal was to create a layout that represented the Los Angeles summer heat, with bold colors, bright florals, fun typography.

RETOUCHING

Through my classes at Elon University in the Communication Design major, as well as my summer internship with Kimberly Metz Photo, I have had the priviledge to recieve lots of training in retouching and photoshop. My favorite aspects of photoshop include retouching skin to create natural-looking skin that maintains texture. I enjoy retouching headshots, editorial photos, and honestly anything else!

VIDEO PRODUCTION

Sophomore year, I took a class called "Creating Multi-Media Content." In that class, I learned how to use a video camera to record professional footage and how to edit that footage. Using those skills, I have created video for several Performing Arts majors at Elon to use in their reels or as personal introductions.
